The Elementary One Classroom (E-1) provides rich curriculum in the areas of traditional Montessori education: botany, zoology, social studies, astronomy, geography, geometry, language, and mathematics. In addition, handwriting is taught using the curriculum "Handwriting Without Tears" as is keyboarding through word processing exercises. Reading is taught and celebrated through studies of literature genres. Creative and functional writing are integrated across the curriculum.

Children are presented with short lessons each day and are provided with guidance as they learn to manage their time and learning. The children participate in a morning meeting then are provided an uninterrupted three-hour work period. The environment facilitates attention, organization, individualized learning, and independence.

Students are provided with Spanish lessons, art lessons, music, and creative expression including informal drama. These are presented in the afternoon, outside of the 3 hour work period. The children follow the school schedule for lunch and outdoor play.

In order to provide this wonderful program to students, we will be redesigning our multipurpose area in order to create a classroom for E-1 students. The majority of the work on this classroom will be complete in June of 2009. New walls, doors, and cubbies are part of the design plan. Please visit with Mr. Bob with questions on this project.

We are excited to offer this program to families in our community. Our classroom will serve ten students, and our teacher is Miss Mary who will co-teach with Miss Camille. If you are interested in having your child enroll as an E-1 student, please visit our website for an application and schedule an interview with Miss Camille at (701) 232- 1133.
